News from Wales

The Wales Cultural Tourism Partnership

The Partnership at their meeting on the 17th of November received a presentation on the proposals for a national heritage interpretation strategy for Wales from the Heritage Department of the Welsh Assembly Government. The strategy identifies a number of pan Wales themes and interpretative principles, and will be funded in part through the Heritage Tourism Convergence Programme. The strategy will apply to both heritage monuments managed by the Heritage Department of the Welsh Assembly Government and those operated by local authorities and independent bodies who wish to participate.

The Partnership also discussed a new Food Tourism Action Plan that had been published by the Welsh Assembly Government to bring together the areas of agriculture, food processing, tourism destinations, food festivals and food outlets in order to capitalise on the economic benefits of providing visitors with a unique, high quality and distinctive food cultural experience.

The Partnership expressed a wish for Wales to host a future ECTN conference in 2011 or 2012.
